QUESTION:
i see alot of people doing this but i dont know how, i paint a falg or banner bleached bone but what color should i use to get the waves in them stand out or become darker?
ANSWER:
I recommend WET BLENDING.

After your bleached Bone layer dries, mix some bleached Bone with just a touch of scorched brown. Thin this down to almost the consistency of milk and paint it into the deep recesses of the banner/flag. Not too heavy, just a tint to the recesses. Remove any over-loading from your brush on a paper towel before you touch the banner/flag.

While it is STILL WET, take another larger brush that is clean. Get this brush wet, and draw out the excess water from the brush on a paper towel. Smooth this brush over the raised areas on the banner/flag to *REMOVE* excess paint from those raised areas.

Let it dry.

Next, add a little water to some bleached bone. You want it slightly thicker than milk, but thinner than it comes out of the paint pot. Hit the top edges of the folds on the banner/flag that would normally catch light. This should punch the natural highlights on the banner/flag up just a bit.

Repeat the step above, but add a touch of SKULL WHITE to the slightly thinned bleached bone above. Do this just a couple times. You could mix all the way up to a solid white highlight, but this usually looks unnatural.

Enjoy.
